BR CLASS 37
The Class 37 model here produced commercially by AP Model Engineering has had addition detail work fitted, an R/C control system conversion, smoke units and a sound system fitted to make this a highly-specced model. The conversion has been set up so that it can operate both R/C and with a conventional handset. The engine was built to negotiate very tight radius curves, as it came from a garden railway in Lincolnshire, resulting in a body sitting above the bogie wheels. The real 37s have a big following with enthusiasts nicknaming them “Tractors” or “Growlers” due to their immense engine noise. The type 3 design was based on Deltic power bogies again by English Electric and may survive in operation to this day, with DRS only now reducing its number of class 37s allocated at Crewe in 2024. No doubt they will find use with private owners in the future or perhaps on heritage lines.
